Sparks, the brainchild of Annie of McGuffy's Reader, is on hiatus, so here's an Thought-Provoking Quote of the Week in her honor.

Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border.  Her partner, Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey, is taking a break due to her husband's health.   Charlotte/Mother Owl almost always participates, too.  This week the theme is Ancestors.

(Yes, this is based on a true story.)

The children were excited,
Vacation starts today,
The car was packed up to the brim,
All ready to get away.

Each suitcase was in place now,
The family gathered 'round,
And father said, I have some news
That I promise will astound.

We can't go on vacation,
For a trouble has come, alas
It seems we have an illness,
So our vacation can't come to pass.

There was much bewailing
And Mom at Dad did look,
Then when he went on with detail,
For some reason, she shook.

We all have a condition,
Dad did go on to say,
It seems we have ancestors!
The doctor called today!

Mom tried to hide her face as
The children all did moan,
But soon she whooped with laughter,
'Til with pain in her side she did groan.

And so the children knew that dad
Another joke was making,
They turned and got into the car,
This vacation they were taking!
