Poetry Monday was started by Diane at On The Alberta/Montana Border. Jenny at Procrastinating Donkey is on a blog break because of her husband's health. Charlotte/Mother Owl always participates, and now Karen at Baking in a Tornado is jumping in some weeks, too. Spike's Best Mate often leaves a wonderful poem in the comments on one of our blogs.
This week the theme is Winnie-The-Pooh, as today is the anniversary of the birth of his creator, A.A. Milne.
Deep in the Hundred Acre Woods
Where Christopher Robin did play,
There is a cast of characters
That charm me to this day.
The poems and stories about them are
Beloved by me still.
Getting to read them to children does
Even now give me a thrill.
Winnie-the-Pooh is special,
And Piglet is just a dear,
Wise Owl's lectures unforgettable,
He makes things very clear.
Kanga's a wonderful mother,
To her very bouncy Roo,
Speaking, of course, of bouncy,
You have to love Tigger, too.
My personal very favorite
Is Eeyore in his Gloomy Place,
That precious little donkey,
Makes me want to kiss his face.
We were very young, and we turned six,
At Pooh Corner we learned how
To get along, and make a friend,
Yes, i'd go back, even now.
