The young mother and her mom had boarded with the tiny child, hot, tired, and already wanting the trip to be over. The baby was happily babbling, oblivious to the fact that this was a momentous occasion, her first train ride.
About halfway through the trip, the inevitable happened, and baby had to, shall we put it euphemistically, do a doodle in her cloth diaper. While juggling the child and the new diaper (in the days before changing tables were ubiquitous), the situation became more, well, interesting, as two very firm turds rolled out of the diaper onto the floor and toward the seats ahead, coming to a stop right next to the very nice dress shoes of one of the men sitting in front of them.
The two ladies spent the rest of the trip trying to surreptitiously coax the two errant pieces of poop back toward them, all the while trying not to laugh and draw attention to themselves.
Eventually they succeeded, and to say it was a trip they never forgot was putting it mildly.
