Words for Wednesday was begun by Delores and has become a moveable feast of word or picture or music prompts to encourage us to write stories, poems, or whatever strikes our fancy.

This month, the prompts are being provided by David M. Gasciogne and posted by Elephant's Child.

This week's prompts are:

  • Happen
  • Truck
  • Hollow
  • Daffy
  • Tired
  • Joke

and/or…..

  • Relationship
  • Nature
  • True
  • Home
  • Aphorism
  • Dragged

Have fun.

Years ago, he'd DRAGGED what was left of a TRUCK HOME to their farm, and she thought it was a JOKE.

When he stuffed the HOLLOW shell of a vehicle into the TIRED old outbuilding he called a garage and the door had fallen off the building, she'd wondered if he'd gone DAFFY.

It's not just an APHORISM that love covers a multitude of sins, it's a deep part of the NATURE of a RELATIONSHIP.

In this case, her love for him kept her mouth closed as far as her TRUE opinion that a full restoration would never HAPPEN.  She tried to stay positive for his sake, hoping against hope.

He'd worked on it off and on for years, gotten their son to help after he was born and grown big enough, never giving up his dream to get it running again.

Tonight, he'd told her, he was going to try to turn the key.  It wasn't perfect, but the engine should run at least, a solid step toward getting it to move under its own power someday.  In anticipation, without telling him, she'd prepared an extra special cake and ice cream dessert, with sparkler candles to put on top.

When she heard the roar of the engine, and the whoop of triumph from him and their son shouted into the evening air, she and daughter processed to the garage with cake, ice cream, sparklers lit, bowls and spoons at the ready.

It was time for a celebration.
