Storm (Six Sentence Story), Good Fences, Sammy’s Poetry Day and Brian’s Thankful Thursday

We'd been about a week without rain, and the grass was starting to show it.

Sometimes our weather pattern is "a thunderstorm a day keeps the drought at bay," and other times it is dry, dry. dry. dry, monsoon rain, and this day was like that.

The day started with that hot, muggy feeling that only gets hotter and muggier as the clouds build up, until you can see nothing but black skies and feel the crackle of the approaching lightening.

Then comes the wind, pushed ahead of the falling rain, which comes down in buckets and sheets, while the lightening strikes all around and the "thunder bumpers" shake the whole house, trees whipping around like mad and branches and leaves flying off in every direction.

After a while it moderates to just rain, interspersed with the occasional cell of more violent weather, and when it finally tapers off, you step outside to a different world from the one before the storm as the 3-5 inches of rain from the last two hours tries to drain off.

You smell the petrichor, and start to hear the birds chirping again in their gladness it's over, and you put on your grubby clothes and go out to begin the chore of cleaning the debris left behind.

Linking up with Denise at Girlie On The Edge Blog, where she hosts Six Sentence Stories, and the cue is Petrichor.

While Good Fences Around the World seems to have gone the way of the dodo bird, i still enjoy looking for and posting interesting fences, so i will!

It's Angel Sammy's Poetry Day This week's image and my poem:

I'm not really that lazy,

I just need my rest, you see.

I spend my time defending

my big territory.

My wives spend their time hunting,

I chase invaders away,

it just makes a bloke tired,

is all I have to say!
